I’ve been thinking a lot about heist films lately and figured it was time that I established a set of criteria that I can use to determine whether something is a heist film or not. I have come up with three criteria. If a movie’s primary story contains at least two of the following then I consider it a heist film.
1) a plan or a hunt (examples: break into a high security vault or follow a trail of clues to find a treasure)
2) a rescue or an escape (examples: rescue a princess or escape from a prison)
3) a theft or a plant (examples: steal some diamonds or plant an incriminating document)
Simple as that. Stay tuned for more about the importance of this…
